Mixed Reality (MR)
Mixed reality is an extended form of augmented reality. Virtual objects are not only placed over the real world: they interact with it and are anchored in space. Simple AR overlays do not know the room. MR systems understand the spatial geometry of the environment. They can hide virtual objects behind real objects, put them on surfaces or calculate collisions. Mixed reality is part of the wider extended reality (XR) spectrum, which includes all immersive technologies.
